Birth Doula Care

Birth doula services offer calm, continuous support through every stage of labor, whether you’re at home in Amherst, birthing at Cooley Dickinson, or preparing for an induction at Baystate. A birth doula can remove stress of the unknown and help you feel confident, informed, and respected throughout your birth experience.

Cultivating peace & connection throughout your birth experience.

I believe birth truly can be a space where you and your partner fall even deeper in love, a space where you unlock a power within yourself that maybe you didn’t know was there before, a space where you feel honored and anchored, and of course a space where you can bask in the highest surge of oxytocin a body can produce.

It’s incredible.

And you deserve all the support to fully make this experience your own, to feel empowered, and to find joy along the way.

During Pregnancy

Once I’m hired on as your doula, you have unlimited phone, text, or email support throughout the pregnancy. Typically we do an intake meeting shortly after the contract is signed, at least one virtual meeting, and at least one in-person meeting prior to birth*. I also do a short, virtual weekly check-in with families starting at 36 weeks.

During BIRTH

When your birthing time begins, I will either meet you in your home or at the birthing place. I will continue to support you and your partner through the entire birth. Medical staff change shifts, but your doula is continuous support through it all!

AFTER BIRTH

After Baby is born, I stay for a little while to assist with skin-to-skin bonding, the first feeding, take photos of your first moments together, and feed you some light nourishment. Then I leave y’all to enjoy your sweet new rosebud. My fee includes two in-home postpartum visits.

What should we expect at our pre-birth meetings?

During these meetings, we can discuss a wide range of topics, such as:

  • Options that are available to you before and during birth
  • Physiology of birth + stages of labor
  • Fear cleansing around birth
  • Discover pressure relief tactics feel best to your baby and body
  • Connect with local organizations that support birthing folks and growing families
  • Learn about bringing Baby home
  • And anything that comes up along the way!
*Some families prefer to meet monthly, and that is fine by me!

What does a doula do during labor & birth?

Birth support looks different for every family. Through each birthing wave, I will gently guide you and your partner by offering pressure relief tactics, such as:

  • Birth positioning to optimize baby’s engagement with the pelvis
  • Birth hypnosis
  • Physical counter-pressure and light  massage
  • Heat/cold therapy
  • Rebozo work
  • Aromatherapy
  • And much more

Partner Support:
Birth partners are so important. I tell people that I’m the partner’s doula just as much as the birther’s doula. I make sure the partner’s questions are answered, that they’re able to feel close and connected with their loved one, and that they get food+rest.

How do doulas support families after birth?

Birth doula services include two postpartum in-home visits. During these visits, I can help you:

  • Process your birth experience
  • Answer any questions you may have about newborns and soothing
  • Connect to resources for breastfeeding and mental health support
  • Take care of Baby so you can nap or play with older children in the home
  • Help with meal preparation
  • Babywearing instruction

Postpartum is a delicate time, and it is different for every family.

Let’s get you what you need to be able to bask in your amazing work making such a beautiful new little person to join your family.

Pricing

The birth doula package is $2400.

What's not Included in birth doula services?

I provide emotional, physical, and informational support throughout your birth. But I also believe in setting loving, clear boundaries so everyone knows what to expect.

Here’s what’s not included in birth doula services:

  • Medical tasks or clinical advice
  • Driving or transporting family members
  • Heavy housework – while I’m happy to help with laundry and light housekeeping while you’re bonding with your baby, I’m not able to do heavy domestic tasks
  • In-depth lactation consulting (though I’m happy to refer you to someone amazing!)

Think of your doula as your guide, but not your nurse, midwife, or housekeeper.
